Kibbe Body Type Test (Detailed)
This Kibbe Body Test with pictures helps you discover your unique body type. To make things easier, I’ve designed the test to be as clear as possible, so you can easily understand what each question is about. I hope this Kibbe Body Type Quiz help you more understand about characteristics that are being asked about.

Moreover, the Kibbe system helps you understand your natural body lines and how to dress in a way that enhances them. There are 10 body types in total (based on David Kibbe’s new book), and they are grouped into 5 main families: Dramatics, Naturals, Classics, Romantics, and Gamines. Each family reflects a different combination of yin and yang energy, which influences both your physical features and your best styling choices. Kibbe types are Dramatic, Soft Dramatic, Flamboyant Natural, Soft Natural, Dramatic Classic, Soft Classic, Flamboyant Gamine, Soft Famine, Romantic and Theatrical Romantic. Compared to the 1987 system David Kibbe no longer works with Pure Classic, Pure Natural and Pure Gamine.
Note: Before you start, it’s best to take a full-body photo at chest level in tight clothes or underwear. This way, you’ll be able to answer the questions more accurately. Instead of holding your phone and taking a mirror selfie, it’s better to use a self-timer. Not only does this improve the photo quality, but it also ensures a more neutral pose.
In addition, I recommend creating a silhouette rather than using a regular photograph. That’s because clothing can easily distort how we perceive proportions such as limb length or body balance.
Another helpful tip is to place your photo next to an image of a pure Classic—for example, Grace Kelly. By doing so, you can better compare key features and proportions.
So let’s determine your Kibbe.
How the Test Works
This test is divided into 3 parts: Bone Structure, Body Flash and Facial Features
1. Bone Structure (I mean the structure that doesn’t change when we gain or lose weight — the skeleton that defines our proportions: how our body is built, how broad our bones are, how long our limbs are, how small our hands are, how big our head is in comparison to the body, etc.)
2. Body Flesh (I mean how our body looks depending on how muscle and fat are placed. Some people look soft and curvy even if they are thin. Others look more bony, with visible bones and joints. Some have rounded shoulders and soft lines, while others show more of their skeleton, which can help identify their kibbe type.
3. Facial Features I mean the size of the eyes, lips, and nose, which are essential facial features in determining your kibbe type. How does the face look — more sharp or more doll-like?)
Each question has 5 answer options:
- A / B = Yang (sharper, angular) (We see more bone structure and sharper features.)
- D / E = Yin (softer, rounder) (We see more body flesh and roundness, women with more Yin have soft features and look mostly soft)
- C = Balanced (There is a balance of both yin and yang — like they were blended together in a mixer to create a perfectly even mix.)
Kibbe Body Type Test Part 1: Bone Structure
1. Vertical: How long is your vertical line (how tall you look)?
(Those with a long vertical line usually have a longer torso, or sometimes a longer torso and upper thigh area.)
I look..
A) very tall for my height
B) a bit taller than I am
C) exactly my height
D) a bit shorter than I am
E) very short for my height
If we look at the first picture, we automatically assume the person is tall.
Now, imagine she told us she is 5’4” — that would be surprising.
In contrast, when looking at the second figure, we might expect her to be around 5’6”.
On the other hand, with the last picture, we might again be surprised if the person was 5’4”, because her proportions make her look shorter.
If the head is small in proportion to the body, the person looks taller. Longer limbs also make the body look taller. For example, wider shoulders can also make the figure look bigger.
2. Shoulders: What shape are your shoulders?
A) Narrow and sharp
B) Broad and blunt
C) Symmetrical, not sharp or sloped
D) Sloped and tapered
E) Sloped shoulders and rounded
I recommend looking at a picture where the person is wearing a tank top. For example, it’s often much easier to see the shape of the shoulders, which plays a significant role in the body type system, and we can better understand what is meant by ‘shoulder shape’.
3. Arms and Legs: What shape are your arms and legs?
A) Long and narrow
B) Long and broad
C) Average in length and width
D) Slightly short
E) Very short
4. Hands and feet: What size and shape are your hands and feet?
A) Long and narrow
B) Large and broad
C) Medium size
D) Small and narrow
E) Small and wide
For example, if you have large hands but narrow fingers, then you’re considered type A. On the other hand, if your hands are large and don’t appear narrow, then you’re likely type B. Meanwhile, if your hands are very small and appear fleshy or thick, you would fall under type D. Similarly, if your hands are very small but have narrow fingers, you’re also type D. In contrast, a balanced appearance — hands that are not too large or too small — would indicate type C.

Kibbe Body Type Test Answers:
1. Count how many times you chose each letter (A, B, C, D, E).
2. Look for patterns in your answers.
TIP: When comparing, don’t focus on the face as the main feature.
Results:
- Mostly A = Dramatic (sharp yang),
- or A with some D/E = Soft Dramatic,
- Mostly B with some A = Flamboyant Natural,
- or B with some D/E = Soft Natural,
- Mostly C with some A/B = Dramatic Classic.
- or C with some D/E = Soft Classic
- Mostly E = Romantic (lush yin),
